The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought the Centre's stand on a plea seeking directions for 'Vande Mataram', a poem which had played a historic role in the struggle for India's freedom, to be "honoured equally" with 'Jana Gana Mana' and be given an "equal" status
A PIL was filed mentioning that along with Jana Gana mana, our national anthem even Vande Mataram has to be given equal importance and honour, It should be agreed that Vande Mataram has played a really significant and historic role in our past and independence and freedom era. It moreover asked the Centre and State Governments to guarantee that 'Jana-Gana-Mana' and 'Vande Mataram' should be played and embraced in every primary and secondary school and every other educational institution across every working day, and also to structure regulations in the divinity of the Constituent Assembly resolution which came into force on January 24, 1950, read with the Madras High Court and Supreme Court of India's verdicts. For now, the high court has asked the center’s opinion on this.
